Beltaine is the start of the Celtic Summer, the light season of the year. This is One of Two natural times of the year when the Veil between Worlds / Realms is very thin. It is a time of communication with Spirits ( the non-alcoholic kind ) and at this time, especially Nature Spirits.

In Irish Gaelic ‘ Beltaine ‘ is the name for the month of May and in Scottish Gaelic Bealhuinn means Mad Day, the root word means " Bel-Fire " and Beltaine is associated with the Celtic Fire God Bel. Bel is one of the Gods of Light & Fire and he is also associated with the Sun, although he is NOT Specifically a Sun God.

Bon-fires should be lit and when the flames become low; Single People would jump the fire and wish for a Husband or Wife. Women of ALL ages would jump the fire to remain at the height of their Fertility and couples would jump in order to strengthen their bonds.

Cattle; at the end of the evening when the fire has all but gone out, were driven between two Beltaine fires, or driven over one set of Ashes to ensure a good milk yield for the coming year.
