Gardening Update
Where to start? Exactly how I felt when we moved and I saw the state of the gardens. I know I wanted a challenge but a back garden that hadn't been tended in 12 years and a front garden that was left to it's own devices except an annual cut, well that surely was a CHALLENGE!
The front garden was the easiest to tackle to I started on it. I cut down the 3ft long grass with edging shears and lifted it before mowing the grass at least 3 times. The back garden was a different story, with at least 6ft weeds and an infestation of ladybirds, it took me days to get it cout down before we got a proper look at the layout of the garden. After alot of hard work, both gardens have been transformed. The back garden is the vegetable garden with 3 plots dug out: one large plot for potatoes which will help break down the soil at the bottom of the garden which has the roots of 3 trees that had long ago been sawn down; one middle size plot for onions, peas and carrots; one small plot for lettuce, raddish, chives and beetroot. We have 2 compost bins and from the orginal cut, the compost has broken down sufficiently for me to be able to use alongide the path when I have planted cuttings from different shrubs that my Aunty kindly gave me. The front garden has a lovely garden lawn, in the centre of which there is space that I've dedicated to the Elements, giving us our sacred elemental garden. Bordering the lawn I have planted the following herbs: thyme, feverfew, hysopp, lemon balm, chamomile, rosemary, sage and mint.
I am really pleased with both gardens and how well they have grown and blossomed. |
